KSL City Mall at No. 33, Jalan Seladang, Taman Abad, 80250 Johor Bahru has go-karting, a cinema, an indoor playground, massage outlets and a supermarket all open daily from 10am to 10pm — which means a full rainy day in JB never has to feel wasted.
You know that feeling lah — you wake up in your unit at KSL D’Esplanade, pull back the curtains, and the whole of Johor Bahru is just… grey. Rain hammering the window, puddles forming on Jalan Seladang below, and zero desire to battle through it with an umbrella. Shiok if you were planning a beach day. Not so shiok if you had an outdoor plan.
Good news: you’re already connected to one of JB’s biggest malls. From the KSL D’Esplanade lobby it’s a 2–5 minute walk to every activity below — no Grab needed, no wet shoes. Here’s how to fill a rainy JB day without once stepping out into the rain.

1. GO! Karting — Level 6 Car Park
GO! KARTING is tucked into Level 6 Car Park, Unit L6-004 of KSL City Mall, and it’s one of those places that sounds random until you’re actually gripping the wheel. An 8-minute single race session costs RM35 — confirmed across multiple reviews — and the track is fast enough to feel exciting without being terrifying for beginners. Open daily 10am–10pm, so a mid-afternoon race is perfectly doable after a slow morning.
Insider tip: Get there early on weekends; the lane fills up and wait times stretch. A weekday rainy afternoon is honestly the sweet spot — shorter queues and the same track.
2. GO! JUMP (Floor is Lava) — Same Venue, Level 6
At the same Level 6 unit, GO! JUMP runs a “Floor is Lava” activity: 15 minutes per person for RM35. It’s exactly what it sounds like — jumping between platforms without touching the “lava” floor — and it’s genuinely fun for teens and adults who think they’re too cool for playgrounds. Anti-slip socks (RM3) are compulsory and sold at the counter, so budget that in. Pro tip: pair the karting and GO! JUMP in one visit — they’re at the same counter and it kills a good chunk of the afternoon.
3. GSC Cinema — Level 2
GSC Cinemas KSL City Mall is on Level 2, Unit L2-128, with 8 halls and 1,378 seats — call them on +60 7-330 5039 or check gsc.com.my for same-day showtimes. Standard 2D tickets start from around RM15–17 depending on the film and session. First screenings typically start around 11am, so you can catch a morning show and still have the whole afternoon free.
Rainy day hack: Wednesday GSC promotions usually offer the best ticket price of the week. Check the GSC app or website before you head down — confirm what’s showing to avoid a wasted trip to the counter.
4. Funtopia Indoor Playground — Level 1
If you’ve got kids in tow, Funtopia at Level 1, Unit L1-096 is a lifesaver on a rainy day. Designed for children aged 1–12 years, it has climbing structures, slides and activity zones to keep little ones entertained for hours. One parent enters free with each paid child ticket — confirm current child pricing at the counter as rates can change. Open daily 10am–10pm.
One honest note: Funtopia (Level 1) and GO! KARTING (Level 6) are on opposite ends of the mall vertically, so plan your route if you want to hit both — backtracking through the mall with tired kids is less fun than it sounds.
5. Massage and Reflexology — Multiple Outlets
A rainy afternoon is basically a free invitation to get a massage, and KSL City Mall has several outlets to choose from. Thai Odyssey is on Level 2 (L2-001), Thong Thai is on Level 1 (L1-83), and Siam Oasis is on Level 2 (L2-092, open 11am–11pm — slightly later than the others). Walk-in is usually fine mid-week, but call ahead on weekends. Rates here are a fraction of what you’d pay across the Causeway — one of the small but real joys of a JB trip.
6. Lotus’s Supermarket — Lower Ground
Lotus’s KSL City is on the Lower Ground floor, Unit LG-26, open daily 10am–10pm including public holidays. If the rain is truly bucketing down and you just want to ride it out comfortably, this is your move: stock up on snacks, drinks, instant noodles and whatever else you need, then head back upstairs to your unit. Lotus’s stocks both halal-certified products and non-halal items — check product labelling for your preference.
Bonus use: It’s also the best place to grab breakfast supplies if you want a slow morning in before the rain clears.
7. KSL D’Esplanade Rooftop Pool — Level 7 (Southern Homestay Guests)
Wait — a pool on a rainy day? Hear us out. The swimming pool at KSL D’Esplanade Level 7 is open daily 9am–6:30pm, and swimming in light rain is genuinely shiok — you’re already wet, the pool is warm, and there’s usually nobody else there. It’s one of those low-key experiences that JB regulars swear by. This is a Southern Homestay guest perk — confirm access with us when you book or check in, and avoid it if there’s lightning in the area (safety first lah).
8. Window Shopping, Arcade and Karaoke
KSL City Mall has five floors of retail, which means window shopping is a perfectly valid rainy-day activity — and money changers inside the mall typically offer competitive rates if you need to top up ringgit, which is handy for Singapore visitors arriving with SGD. For the arcade crowd, check the entertainment floor for claw machines and token games. And for karaoke on a rainy night out? We’ve covered the best options in a separate post: Best KTV Karaoke Near KSL, JB — all the family-friendly box-karaoke spots a short Grab ride from your unit.
