Most first-timers try to “do all the malls” in one weekend and end up spending half the trip in a Grab. A better plan: pick the one or two that match what you actually want to buy. Here is how we brief our own guests.

Which JB mall should I pick for what?

Where should I go for a big-brand mall day?

Mid Valley Southkey opened in 2019 and is widely described as the largest shopping mall in Johor, mixing luxury names with high-street staples and a large Village Grocer for imported and local foods. Further north in Tebrau, Toppen Shopping Centre is anchored by IKEA Tebrau — the first IKEA in Johor — and sits right by AEON Mall Tebrau City, forming one big retail cluster. Many Singapore visitors report IKEA and grocery prices noticeably lower than at home once the exchange rate is factored in, which is why weekend IKEA runs from across the Causeway are a thing. Plan it as its own half-day: the cluster is about 20 minutes from KSL by car, longer in peak traffic.

When are Johor Premium Outlets worth the trip?

Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) in Kulai carries over a hundred outlet stores for international designer and sports brands, with discounts that commonly run deep on past-season stock. It is the right choice when you are hunting specific labels rather than browsing — and the wrong one if you only have a single afternoon, because the drive from the city centre takes roughly 30–45 minutes each way. Where can I shop at night in JB?

The pasar malam (night market) is the other half of JB shopping — street stalls selling clothes, accessories, phone gear, snacks and a wall of local street food at prices malls cannot touch.
